As part of the infrastructure works planned for the reactivation of tourism and the economy, the government will soon begin construction of a new airport in Tulum, Quintana Roo, informed President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

The new Tulum International Airport “Felipe Carillo Puerto” will have the capacity to serve 4 million passengers per year, assured General Gustavo Vallejo.

Currently, the project is in the studies phase and in the elaboration of the executive project, which is expected to be concluded next July. Construction of the military air base began last March and is expected to be completed in February of next year.
Construction work on the civilian airport facilities began in April and will be completed in December 2023. This new aeronautical complex will be operational as of May 2024, four months after the inauguration of the Mayan Train.

The project contemplates the construction of a runway of approximately 3,700 meters, in addition to a fuel terminal with a capacity of 6 million liters, a rescue and fire extinguishing station, and a platform for fixed and rotary wing aircraft.
It will also have a passenger terminal, general aviation offices, parking for passengers, employees, cabs and buses, and a Mayan Train terminal.
